About Us

Silver Edges Duo is co-founded by Luisa Cartagena and Alysa Treber, two flutists and music educators based in Los Angeles, California. As fierce advocates of new music, they specialize in the performance of new and contemporary works for two flutes as well as collaborating with living composers.

They have presented numerous lecture recitals in the Los Angeles area as well as participated in masterclasses with renowned flutists Amy Porter, Jill Felber, and others. Their recent west coast tour featured world-premieres by composers Steven Luksan and Nicolas Cazares.

Luisa Cartagena holds a Master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts of Amherst and a Bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music, studying flute with professors Chris Krueger, Wendy Rolfe, and Robert Willoughby. She currently performs as a freelance flutist, teaches privately, and holds the position of band director at the St. James Episcopal School of Los Angeles.

Alysa Treber can be heard on upcoming indie films, and plays with orchestras in the greater Southern California region. Alysa also teaches private lessons, and serves as an adjudicator and clinician. A fierce advocate for performing new works of music, Alysa has premiered pieces by Steven Luksan, Tom Childs and others. Alysa studied with Donna Shin at the University of Washington, as well as with Richard Sherman at Michigan State University.
